The very spacious room where I could work undisturbed. The room was completely renovated with very clean bathroom and nice floor parquet in bed- and sitting room. Very quiet airconditioner that can be easily remote controlled. Fridge, complimentary bottle of water, complimentary wifi with acceptable speed. Backup power with own generator makes one forget that there is frequent load shedding in the city.
The food at the restaurant was quite good, however the waiter was really bored and rude in most cases!
The hotel was looking quite good on the outside, but in the inside it was very dark, old with some kind of kitsch paintings on the wall. Also, most floors were under construction and all over the floor there were white blankets. Definitely not a 4 star one..
I really don't feel very comfortable to stay in this hotel. Everything looks so dark.
The hotel is overall old facilities and the building looks very historical. The height of roof in the room, make me feel very pressure in the building and surrounding.
The room was very spacious nicely furnished and very pleasant to be in, once I settled in my room 2 staff brought a basket of flowers and a basket of fruit as a welcome gift something the other 5 star hotels I have been to did not do it, the hotel grounds are very nice and it is so pleasant to relax by the pool after a full day of touring Katmandu. The buffet breakfast was nice and plentiful, it was served in the original dining room of the palace the staff were ever so alert, friendly and never too far from my table. Dinning at the hotel was the same price as the restaurants that cater for tourist around Kathmandu BUT the quality and taste of the food was far superior at the hotel, I highly recommend the hotel restaurant, in fact after I tried 3 other restaurants in Kathmandu I did not go to any other restaurants. The most pleasant part of my stay was the last day, as my flight time was at 11 PM, I asked reception if I could leave my bags in storage till 8 PM AND to my surprise I was told that I can have a late check out at 6 PM which was absolutely wonderful and it allowed us to have a full day of touring in Kathmandu, then we checked out at 6 PM, we had dinner at the hotel till 8 Pm and by then it was time to go to the airport in the complementary taxi. The hotel staff and service was excellent at all levels everyone was friendly and very helpful the hotel even supplied us with umbrellas and access to the internet was also free in the business centre unlike other 5 star hotels who were charging exorbitant prices to use the internet in the so called business centre.
1. Location : Close to Thamel. Lots of restaurants nearby. Not too far from most tourist attractions. 2. Price : For a 4 star hotel the rooms are fairly priced (atleast i got a good deal at Booked.net). 3. Rooms : Clean. Room service done daily. 24 hrs hot water supply. 4.Staff : Cooperative. Ready to help you with your excursions. 5. Very good spa (Tranquility spa) nearby & recommended by the hotel.
1. Extremely expensive wi-fi service (around 18$ per hour). Infact most of the recognised hotels provide free wi-fi service to their guest. 2. Sight seeing & other adventurous activities (like river rafting) over priced. Since i have been there before i know what are the usual rates. 3. Buffet breakfast though included in the package had little choice to offer. 4.Being a 4 star hotel they need to have a gym. Swimming pool small in size.
The place is kind of old, but has a charm to it, the staff friendly and polite, excelent location so good value for money. Excelent for families do to the nice garden and pool.
The restaurant in the basement is not nice,
Exilent hotel in khathmandu herites and ethinic one
Timing of swiming pool shoud be frommoring 6 am to 9pm
The grounds, the staff, and the security were great. The pool was amazing, as well as the various bars and restaurants on the property. Our Deluxe 1bedroom suite was a great welcome after a 10 day trek through Tibet.
Location, environment, cleanness, staff, service.
Cordial staff. Good house keeping.
Poor dining options. Limited selections. Taste needs improvement. Expensive menu. Services very expensive - even compared to 5 star deluxe hotels.
Comfortable beds and room.
The way everybody wanted tipping. The excessive charges for friends on an hour visit to use the pool.
exceptionally friendly staff, a nice garden with a lot of places to relax, goog breakfast
The Shanker hotel has a old world charm about it, like someone who was born into incredible wealth but no longer has much money. The pool (although chilly) was a welcome sight after a crazy day of exploring in Kathmandu.
The lobby bathrooms were really dirty. Bed quite hard.
My wife and I booked for the night before we were to go on a group tour through Nepal - Shanker was the meeting point.I Mentioned that it was to be our 30th Wedding anniversary and we were presented with a beautiful cake - enough to share with the 8 other members of the group - with some to spare. No money was asked for - the hotel genuinely presented this to us as a gift - what a lovely thought.
bad services there breakfast few items the minbar in the room old and empty and last its over priced i had to call them 3 times to clean the room befors 12 pm
